BIOGRAPHY OF PAVEL PAVLOV (1952 – 2004)

           Without any doubt one of the most outstanding persons in history of Bulgarian sprint for all times is Pavel Pavlov. He used to inspire for more than a decade a kind of respect and admirations in all the track & field fans in Bulgaria in late 70s.
            Pavel Pavlov was born in Plovdiv on 08 March 1952 and his first steps in sport were dedicated to swimming and boxing. Pavlov commenced with athletics a little bit late – as 21 years old. His first love was namely the sprint and his first successes on the track are made under the guidance and advices of famous Bulgarian coach Dimcho Bachvarov. Pavlov was noticed for the first time in 1974, when he entered the finals of the Fourth Bulgarian Spartakiade  at 200 & 400 m and also gained silver medals at 4x100 and 4x400 m with the team of Akademik Sofia. In the next 1975 came the first gold medal – Pavel was first at 200 m with 21.80. That 1975 was significant also with the fact, that Pavlov married Vanya Todorova, former diver and gymnast.
            In the Olympic 1980 year Pavlov run 100 m for 10.56, which occurred as his personal best, but a very heavy injury caused him not to be allowed to compete and qualify for the Olympic Games in Montreal. Nevertheless Pavel was very happy with birth of his son Georgi (who became later a high jumper) and three years later (in 1980) his daughter Vesela was born.
            In 1977 Pavlov bettered his own pb at 200 m (21.05), but again tendon injury impeded him to take part at the Universiade in Sofiya on August. In 1978 Pavlov gained gold medal with CSKA relay team at 4x400 m indoors and eventually decided to switch to 200 & 400 m dashes. As confirmation of his right choice became the Balkan titles at 200 m and 4x100 m relay in Athens and also the 200 m title at Bulgarian Champs in 1978.
            In 1979 Pavel Pavlov took two silver medals (200 m in 21.00 and 400 m in 46.93) from the Fourth Bulgarian Spartakiade and also became Balkan Champion in Athens with Bulgarian 4x100 m relay team (39.81). Pavel run third leg and proved firmly yet once his potentials and ambitions to be real factor in both bulgarian relay teams. In such that 1979 he established the first Bulgarian 200 m indoor record when run 21.77 in Wien on February.
            The Olympic 1980 commenced hopefully for Pavel Pavlov with silver medal at 400 m (with Bulgarian national record 46.41) at the Balkan Games that took place in Sofiya. At the same contest Pavlov became Balkan champion at 4x100 m relay with Bulgarian team. Pavlov was due to lead (with all responsibilities) the national 4x100 m relay ream at Olympic games in Moscow at the end of July. The team was composed of Ivaylo Karanyotov, Vladimir Ivanov, Pavel Pavlov and Petar Petrov. Those four men transferred the batton at relay 4x100 m event for 38.99 sec. – Bulgarian national record that now, 27 years later, still stand on the top of Bulgarian best  lists.
            After ending his track & field carrier in 1983 Pavlov became chairman of United Sport Club “Botev” in Vratsa. Later Pavlov was elected a deputy president and and subsequently president of the Regional Council of Bulgarian Sport Union in Vratsa.
            In 1989 Pavel Pavlov was settled in Morocco for a couple of years where he worked as Senior Coach & Manager of National Sprint team of the mentioned African country.
            After returning from Morroco (in 1991) Pavel Pavlov established his private business. He was among the first businessmen that opened lottery offices of Eurofootball in Vratsa. Later Eurofootball management became (till his death in late of 2004) his main interest of.
            Pavel Pavlov is merited with the Medal of Honour of Vratsa because all his rendering to the development and widening of sport activities in Northwest Bulgaria. Pavlov was  nominated among the best all around sportsmen in 20 century in Vratsa District.
            During his long athletic carrier and later as a sport chairman and activist Pavel Pavlov has  had always given all his capabilities and never wasted strength and energy to support the development and widening of sport activities (and namely track & field activities) in Vratsa.
